We invite you to apply to be a part of our University community!Job DescriptionThe Outdoor Recreation Coordinator/Instructor will coordinate and promote outdoor recreational equipment rental center services; provide technical assistance and instruction to staff, instructors and customers; supervise and train staff in equipment operation/maintenance, and customer service; promote program activities; plan, coordinate, instruct, and participate in a variety of recreational classes, activities and workshops for Idaho State University students, faculty/staff and community members; perform related work.Key Responsibilities● Consult with customers and staff to determine outdoor equipment and supply needs; demonstrate proper use of equipment; make equipment, cabin, and yurt reservations; respond to complaints and inquiries regarding services and equipment (25%)● Manage inventory of programming equipment for Outdoor Adventure Center (OAC) and Sports Science class equipment needs; manage purchasing needs and equipment rotation; assess damage and replacement fees; generate revenue from rental items and new purchases at the center and track it for reporting (20%)● Maintain equipment by establishing and performing preventative maintenance programs for equipment utilized within the OAC and Sports Science classes; evaluate equipment damage and perform repairs or arrange for replacement items as necessary (20%)● Develop and implement equipment policies and procedures related to rental rates, equipment usage, OAC trips and class fees or usage, refunds or damage, etc.; develop publicity materials to promote rental center and outdoor activities (10%)● Develops reports for general operations, deposit summaries, usage, goals and objectives, outdoor orientation, PEAC equipment and income projection, budgets, assessment, etc. (5%)● Interview, hire, train, and evaluate employees (5%)● Plan, organize, and supervise special events and adventures for the university and community (5%)● Conduct ropes course and team building activities for students or community groups (5%)● Plan, schedule, and instruct a variety of indoor and outdoor recreational classes, workshops, and activities (5%)Minimum Qualifications● A bachelor's degree in Outdoor Education or a degree with two years of experience in the outdoor industry
● Good knowledge of techniques, procedures, safety factors, and hazards associated with various outdoor recreational activities
● Knowledge of outdoor recreational equipment and repair techniques for items such as rafts, canoes, tents, skis, paddle boards, etc.
● Wilderness First Responder Certificate and CPR
● Valid driver's license
● Ability to lift up to 100 lbs with, or without accommodationPreferred Qualifications● Awareness of proper procedures for working with hazardous chemicals such as glues, solvents and cleaners
● Experience performing and instructing others in outdoor recreational activities
● Experience supervising, training, hiring, and evaluating employees
● Familiarity with use of rental software
● Knowledge of uses of power tools
● Ability/willingness to work in inclement weather
