Location: Camp Rappahannock, Richardsville, VAPosition Type: SeasonalAbout this opportunity:This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the functions of the Conservatory Music program; ensures the quality of programs and safety of youth at all times; provides guidance and role modeling to youth and ensures safety and a positive experience for campers.Key responsibilities:
  • Provides quality music instruction to campers.
  • Teaches music theory as it applies to the appropriate level for playing purposes.
  • Provides appropriate lessons for instruction time.
  • Reviews assigned homework with students and re-teach skills if necessary.
  • Be responsible for the care of instruments during class, with necessary repairs immediately reported to the Divisional Music Director.
  • Prepares students for recitals and concerts.
  • Plans, schedules, assign and monitor the students work in progress and upon competition to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Recommends and develops activities which will develop musical abilities, motor and learning skills of students.
  • Coordinates the program and activity within the policies and operating procedures of camp.
  • Maintains discipline and acceptable behaviors of students, which will create an atmosphere of friendliness and security during all program periods, enabling all students to feel welcome and comfortable.
  • Participates and assists in various classes as assigned.
  • Provides constant care for the needs of the campers in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner.
  • Provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside activities.
  • Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
  • Sits with camper tables during meals and serve as a table monitor when needed.
  • Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean and ready for inspection.
  • Be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director.
What we are looking for in you:
  • Six months experience teaching music education and teaching experience, with the ability to play and teach lessons in a classroom setting involving more than one student preferred
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • CPR and First Aid Certification
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Some physical requirements of the Camp Music Instructor position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate music equipment and activities are required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available.
