Join our team in Mounds View, MN, where you will provide highly specialized computational modeling expertise in the design and development of innovative products to treat cardiac diseases. This role emphasizes modeling mechanical systems to predict forces, stresses, and strains within the heart and medical devices subjected to in vivo load conditions.
Must Have
  • 2 years working experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Experience with FEA software such as Abaqus CAE, Ansys, or LS-Dyna
  • Experience with solid modeling software such as Pro/Engineer or Solidworks
Nice to Have
  • Ability to perform FEA for device design, optimization, testing verification, method validation, and regulatory submissions
  • Demonstrated knowledge or expertise in cardiovascular physiology
  • Experience in working methods for low and high-cycle fatigue
  • Experience with comparing FEA results with strains and strain imaging techniques like Digital Image Correlation (DIC)
  • Experience with programming/scripting in Python and Matlab
A Day in the Life
Perform theoretical and finite element analysis (FEA) to predict cardiac system behavior under in vivo and in vitro types of load conditions. Develop technical solutions to complex problems that require creativity and critical thinking.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional product development teams to help bring products to market
  • Translate physical constraints and use-conditions relevant to cardiac devices to FEA models with appropriate input
  • Solve FEA models to obtain resultant forces, displacements, stresses, and strains
  • Communicate model results and implications to the device design team
  • Identify research goals and best applicability of computational models with R&D members
  • Apply modeling tools to design and develop new test methods, and integrate new materials and processes
  • Regularly update methods to improve efficiency and maintain state-of-the-art practices
  • Perform model verification study and validation assessment as appropriate
  • Prepare reports and presentations to communicate technical assessments and analysis results
  • Provide technical input supporting submissions to regulatory bodies
Responsibilities May Include
Design, develop, analyze, troubleshoot and provide technical skills during research and/or product development. Design studies to investigate specific life science questions within field of expertise. Translate research discoveries into usable and marketable products.
Required Knowledge and Experience
  • Requires advanced knowledge of job area combining breadth and depth, typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience
  • Requires a University Degree and minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience
