Two years of experience in systems administration or a related role.Job SummaryResponsible for managing, maintaining, and configuring computer systems and servers to ensure they operate effectively and efficiently. The role involves working with hardware, software, networks, and security to ensure the system remains operational and secure. Installing and configuring hardware and software, monitoring system performance, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring system security are integral to the position.Essential Duties: This position requires extensive hands-on interaction with faculty and staff. As a result, this position requires physical presence to complete the essential duties found below.General:
  • Installing and configuring hardware and software, including servers, storage devices, operating systems, and applications.
  • Monitoring system performance and identifying and resolving issues and outages.
  • Managing user accounts and permissions, ensuring data privacy and security.
  • Developing and implementing backup and disaster recovery plans.
  • Conducting system upgrades and migrations.
  • Ensuring system and data security by implementing firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, and other security measures.
  • Managing and maintaining servers, storage devices, and other infrastructure components.
  • Creating and maintaining documentation, including user manuals and system configuration guides.
  • Collaborating with other IT staff to troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues.
  • Staying up-to-date with new technologies and industry trends, and making recommendations for system improvements and upgrades.
  • Perform duties of the chief information officer in their absence.
  • Carry out other such duties as may be assigned or requested.
  • Ability to lift and transport computer equipment such as desktops, monitors, printers, and other hardware (up to 60 lbs.)
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, crouching, climbing ladders, or reaching in tight spaces for cable management or hardware installation
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Skills:
  • Proficiency in Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN).
  • Familiarity with Active Directory, Entra ID, Microsoft 365, Intune, SCCM.
  • Scripting skills in languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
  • Understanding of the CIS Critical Security Controls (v8.1) and their application in system administration.
  • Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Ability to learn new systems and technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
