- Set up and operate abrasive blasting equipment safely and efficiently.
- Select appropriate abrasive media (sand, grit, shot, glass beads, etc.) based on the surface material and coating to be removed.
- Prepare surfaces for blasting by cleaning, masking, or protecting adjacent areas.
- Blast surfaces to achieve specified profiles and cleanliness standards (e.g., SSPC, NACE).
- Inspect blasted surfaces for quality and ensure all coatings and contaminants are removed thoroughly.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on blasting equipment, including replacing hoses, nozzles, and ensuring proper air supply.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, including wearing required PPE (respirators, blast suits, gloves, etc.).
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, managing spent abrasive media and dust.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding project status and material needs.
- Assist with other shop duties as needed, including material handling and basic cleaning.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in abrasive blasting, particularly focused on paint and coating removal in an industrial, automotive, or fabrication setting.
- Proven ability to operate various blasting equipment safely and effectively.
- Knowledge of different abrasive media types and their appropriate applications.
- Familiarity with surface preparation standards (e.g., SSPC-SP, NACE standards) is a significant plus.
- Strong commitment to safety procedures and practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy materials, bend, stoop, and work in a dusty and noisy environment while wearing required PPE.
- Mechanical aptitude for basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
