Please note, this position focuses entirely on clinical research and is not a patient facing NP role. A normal week for the position would be completing clinical trial visits and assessments with clinical trial participants and working with the PI to develop and submit new protocols.In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for the provision, coordination, and assurance of comprehensive nursing care using nursing process and pertinent standards of care, the diagnosis of illness and physical conditions, and performance of therapeutic, corrective, and prescriptive measures of the designated inpatient or outpatient patient population within a collaborative practice agreement established with a specific physician on the staff of NYU Hospitals CenterJob Responsibilities:
  • Collaborates with investigators and study team members to recruit, enroll and retain patients on clinical trials
while ensuring patient safety and protocol fidelity and teaches clinical research coordinator colleagues these tasks and processes. * Collaborates with investigators to evaluate patient eligibility for the specific study.
  • Prepares for and oversees the safe conduct of study treatment visits per protocol.
  • Enters documentation of all medications and/or treatments administered to patients in appropriate medical record. If and when applicable, maintains appropriate records of supplies and investigational drugs in protocol studies as required by government, hospital and FDA regulations. Assists clinician in writing up study conclusion report and research paper. Communicates appropriate information within organization in a timely manner. Reports promptly and accurately all significant clinical events to clinician. Ensures accuracy, usefulness and completeness of all hospital and departmental records and manuals. Contributes to a climate supportive of all departmental and institutional activities.
  • Responsible for good quality source documentation related to research visits, Adverse Events and Concomitant Medications in compliance with CTO policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure Serious Adverse Events and other reportable information is reported as per regulatory requirements
and protocol, institutional and regulatory timeframes. Completes documentation related to Serious Adverse Events in required timeframe, for internal and external review. Provides follow up information, when clinically available, to Serious Adverse Event or Medical Event/Reportable New Information submissions. * Assists in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of research protocols when applicable.
  • Works collaboratively with nursing and other disciplines in the development and implementation of clinical studies within the area of expertise.
  • Maintains current expertise in area of practice.
  • Promotes own professional growth and development in clinical and managerial role.
  • Considers needs and behaviors of specific patient age and cultural groups in all patient care.
  • Practices as a member of the allied health staff according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and bylaws as outlined in the delineation of privileges.
  • Prescribes in-patient and discharge medications according to New York State law, including controlled substances with DEA authorization. Prescribes medical equipment, devices, physical and occupational therapy, and home health services per practice protocol.
  • Works collaboratively with the attending physician, consulting physician(s), and other disciplines to identify,
develop, and implement an appropriate plan of care that maximizes individual patient/family preference and
enhances quality, access, and cost-effective outcomes. * Orders customary laboratory, radiological and diagnostic studies per study protocols, differentiates between normal/abnormal findings and follows protocols for abnormal findings, which may include referral to consulting physicians per customary pattern of the attending MD or with the collaborating physician.
  • Performs complete health history, physical examination and psychosocial assessment of patients within the designated practice or clinical unit.
  • Functions as a respectful member of the health care team.
  • Participates in designated activities related to professional nursing standards and regulations of relevant outside agencies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the organizations Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of responsibilities.
  • Contributes to and publishes relevant research findings in collaboration with research staff. Communicates published research findings to staff members. Prepares reports/abstracts for conferences and publication.
  • Establishes communication with other health professionals to promote and implement research with in assigned unit/department. Collaborates with regulatory coordinator in monitoring all activities, evaluating results and documenting same.
  • Actively participates in appropriate committees with the Department or Institution.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:To qualify you must have:
  • Licensure: Current registration as Professional Nurse in New York and Registration as Nurse Practitioner in New York.
  • Education: Master's Degree in Nursing.
  • Certification required (as soon as feasible following graduation from NP graduate program) by ANCC or Board Certification from other specialty organization that certifies Nurse Practitioners in a clinical area of practice.
  • Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association..
Required Licenses: Registered Nurse License-NYS, Nurse Practitioner-NYS, Basic Life Support CertPreferred Qualifications:Advanced Life Support certification (ACLS, PALS) through the American Heart Association may be required based on your selected privileges. At least five years of clinical nursing practice in the care of the patient population served; ability to apply nursing process toward achievement of specific outcomes in an organized fashion, which addresses patient/family safety and satisfaction. Previous experience as a nurse practitioner is preferred. Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, creative problem solving and excellent critical thinking and leadership; previously demonstrated ability to facilitate group processes and work cohesively and collaboratively as member of the interdisciplinary team; Effective change agent. Physical stamina, manual dexterity, visual and aural acuity to perform responsibilities.
