This position will lead the multi-family initiative within our program. Multi-family projects in the Weatherization program are an essential part of annual production and the multi-family engineer will work with the Local Administering Agencies to oversee and move this initiative forward. The ideal candidate will have a mechanical engineering background with an emphasis in energy savings measures in multi-family dwellings. - Provide advanced mechanical engineering services for a diverse portfolio of complex multi-family residential projects across the state of Illinois, ensuring adherence to technical standards and program requirements.
- Perform quality control assessments on multi-family projects, evaluating the workmanship and adherence to specifications for mechanical systems and building shell retrofits.
- Deliver targeted training and technical support to local administrative agencies on key weatherization processes for multi-family buildings, including data collection, energy audit procedures, and best practices for engineering report documentation.
- Support the development and review of TREAT energy models for multi-family projects, ensuring alignment with energy audit data and adherence to modeling best practices.
- Review and validate energy audit modeling assumptions and calculations within the statewide weatherization energy audit and tracking system for single-family and small multi-family projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
- Exercise independent judgment in the investigation, design, and installation of heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and other mechanical systems for weatherization-funded multi-family dwelling projects, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with project specifications.
- Provide expert engineering advice and technical support for single-family and small multi-family weatherization projects, ensuring the successful implementation of energy-efficient solutions.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
- Reguires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of college, with a degree in mechanical engineering.
- Requires two (2) years of professional experience in mechanical engineering.
- Prefers a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering.
- Prefers one (1) year prior experience working in the energy conservation field.
- Prefers one (1) year prior experience in reviewing multifamily dwelling projects.
- Prefers advanced proficiency in computer applications including, but not limited to, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and other computer-based applications.
- Prefers (1) year prior experience reviewing mechanical engineering reports.
- Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
- Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Must have attended or be able to attend the Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program Training and Certification Program (TCP) 10-week training, Building Performance Institute’s Multi-Family Quality Control Inspection training, and other necessary education and training needed to perform duties. Retain continuing education credits to maintain certifications.
- Requires the completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history form.
