- Providing technical support and explaining building, zoning, fire, accessibility, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing code requirements to Village staff and officials, residents, contractors, and design professionals.
- Processing permit applications, reviewing residential and commercial building plans and specifications for code compliance, and determining required inspections.
- Providing permit applicants with clear, professional plan review comments and code citations.
- Documenting findings and maintaining records of plan examinations, communications, and outcomes.
- Assisting in the enforcement of Village codes and resolving conflicts to attain code compliance.
- Keeping up to date with changes to building codes and regulations, new construction products and technology, and alternative materials, design, and methods of construction.
- Evaluating and making recommendations concerning amendments to the Building Code.
- Attending development meetings and meetings of the Building Board of Appeals, as necessary.
- Collaborating with the Building Official and other Village staff on plan review and inspection activities.
- Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, construction management or related field preferred.
- At least two (2) years of architecture, engineering, or construction management experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Prior municipal experience is a plus.
- Current ICC Certified Residential Plans Examiner or Building Plans Examiner (or the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire). Additional certifications, such as Energy and Accessibility Plans Examiner, are desirable.
- Strong understanding of municipal codes and permit processes. Experience with permitting and plan review software (such as LAMA and Bluebeam) is preferred.
- Knowledge of building structures, materials, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interpret technical information for a wide range of audiences.
- Ability to work independently to manage a wide variety of duties, projects, and responsibilities with time-sensitive deadlines.
- Valid driver's license.
