Will be working with students in multiple settings throughout the day to support academic, safety and behavioral needs.
Individual will assist the student with special needs.
Responsible for the safety, well being and/or work output of the student.
Individual will work with a team of teachers to best serve the education needs of this student.
Assists teaching staff with daily activities, including individualized student care.REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Paraprofessional reports to the Building Principal and may receive direction from the teaching staff.
Assists in the coordination and supervision of student activities.QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Assists teacher in classroom operation.
  • Demonstrates understanding of students' problems.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates initiative and creativity with students and their program.
  • Follows through with prescribed behavioral management programs.
  • Assists in therapy functions, including physical and occupational.
  • Keeps records, writes lessons on the board, corrects students' work.
  • Assists instructional staff in the supervision of students including loading and unloading buses, in the gym , restroom, playground and lunchroom.
  • Assists and instructs students in personal hygiene, including toileting, tooth brushing, hand washing and feeding.
  • Sanitize classroom and equipment using approved materials.
  • Accompany students on field trips.
  • Lifts or assists in lifting students from wheelchairs to changing tables or designated area.
  • Must successfully complete APS required training.
  • Must comply with all APS rules, policies and regulations.
  • Provide support to other positions as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises students under teaching staff direction.Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
2. Will need to meet Highly Qualified requirements (equivalent of Associates Degree or successful completion of ACT Work Keys test).
3. Previous experience working with school aged children.LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, parents, students and administrators.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to work with impaired students with varying levels of ability. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift 40 lbs and or push/pull up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision. The employee needs to be able to tell where a sounds is coming from and hear in a noisy environment.WORK ENVIRONMENT
