- The Medical Lab Technologist is responsible for performing routine and complex laboratory procedures in areas such as chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and blood banking
- This role involves analyzing test results, ensuring quality control, maintaining laboratory equipment, and adhering to regulatory guidelines
- The Medical Lab Technologist collaborates with laboratory staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to provide accurate diagnostic information essential to patient care
- Perform laboratory tests in areas such as chemistry, hematology, microbiology, blood banking, and urinalysis
- Analyze, validate, and interpret test results to ensure diagnostic accuracy and regulatory compliance
- Perform equipment calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting according to established protocols
- Review and verify patient specimens to confirm accuracy before testing
- Maintain laboratory records, ensuring accurate data entry into the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
- Assist in quality assurance programs, including proficiency testing and equipment validation
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare staff to provide accurate test results and address diagnostic concerns
- Perform venipuncture, specimen collection, and sample processing as needed
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to infection control and safety protocols
- Participate in continuing education and stay updated on advancements in laboratory technology
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in laboratory testing
- Proficiency in laboratory instrumentation and diagnostic software
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interaction with healthcare staff and patients
- Knowledge of regulatory standards, including CLIA, CAP, and OSHA guidelines
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field required
- Completion of a NAACLS-accredited Medical Laboratory Science program preferred
- Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB), or American Medical Technologists (AMT) preferred
- Valid state license as required by the state
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred
- Clinical laboratory experience in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory setting preferred
- Experience in high complexity testing and quality control procedures preferred
