The University of Virginia’s Information Technology Services (ITS) seeks an experienced Linux automation engineer with a passion for Linux, automation, and the continuing development of technological skills. The fully-remote position will be part of a team that is: responsible for Linux server deployment and support in an automated fashion using Ansible; developing further automation for servers and application deployment; implementing/architecting a centralized container service for the university based on Kubernetes orchestration.

The ideal candidate has experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat Satellite, Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, VMware, AWS, Kubernetes, and containers.

**This position is Fully Remote**

Team Based Duties include:

Provisioning, troubleshooting, and supporting RHEL based Linux servers.

Maintaining and developing automation with Ansible, git, and Satellite.

Monitor performance and availability of complex systems.

Architect, implement, and manage a container management solution (in conjunction with other groups).

Work with customers to determine needs and help implement their services in an automated fashion.

Participation in an on-call rotation approximately one week out of every eight.

Required Qualifications:

High school Diploma and 5 years of related work experience

Preference will be given to applicants with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

RHEL or CentOS Linux system administration experience

Experience with automating Linux servers and solutions with a tool such as Ansible, puppet, chef, salt, etc.

Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Shell, Python, Ruby, etc.)

Working understanding of TCP/IP networking and firewalls

Preferred Experience:

Experience in a large enterprise IT environment, preferably higher education

Familiarity with ServiceNow, Blackboard, and/or other Enterprise help desk systems

Experience with containers and container engines (docker, podman)

Experience with Kubernetes

Experience with CI/CD pipelines

Experience with AWS and/or Azure cloud environments

Experience with implementing security/compliance standards (e.g. CIS, NIST) and using a tool such as OpenSCAP to ensure compliance.
