REPORTS TO: PrincipalPAY GRADE: Para 030/187 daysJOB GOAL:Assist the special education teacher to provide for the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities. Assist in the implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction. Work under the general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher and/or diagnostician.QUALIFICATIONS:Educational Aide I Paraprofessional CertificateHigh School Diploma or GEDSPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:Ability to work well with children with disabilitiesAbility to follow verbal and written instructionsEffective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skillsEXPERIENCE:Experience working with children/students, parents, or persons with disabilitiesMAJOR PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:1. Maintain confidentiality2. Keep accurate records of students with disabilities and furnish to appropriate personnel in a timely manner3. Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus duty, playground, and community4. Assist teacher and/or diagnostician in maintaining, copying, transferring confidential folders as required5. Assist special needs students with individual tasks as may be required including, but not limited to, transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, positioning, feeding, bathroom needs, personal hygiene6. Assist in managing the behavior of students and crisis intervention7. Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student's special medical, physical, communicative, emotional, and safety needs through in-service and/or teacher direction8. Work with and/or prepare materials for individual students or small groups to develop skills through instructional activities under teacher direction9. Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students10. Perform other duties that enhance the safety, security, and instructional needs of the campus as requested11. Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and legal/local board policies12.
