- Ensure the distribution system meets or exceeds all applicable IEPA, State, Federal, and local regulatory standards.
- Develop and implement operational policies, standard operating procedures, and long-range plans for system reliability and efficiency.
- Oversee preparation and submittal of all IEPA compliance reports, water sampling results, and other regulatory filings.
- Inspect and evaluate projects to ensure work meets Village specifications, contract terms, and safety requirements.
- Coordinate with engineering staff, contractors, and vendors for system improvements and emergency repairs.
- Manage annual hydrant flushing, valve exercising, leak detection, and cross-connection control programs.
- Respond to and resolve water quality inquiries from residents and businesses.
- Prepare, monitor, and manage the annual water division budget, including capital improvement planning.
- Maintain accurate records of operations, maintenance activities, and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee meter reading systems (Aclara or equivalent) and ensure timely, accurate billing data.
- Serve as 24/7/365 contact for critical SCADA alarms and water system emergencies.
- Train and mentor staff in water operations, safety protocols, and pursuit of Class āCā or higher water operator licenses.Non-Essential Job Functions- Maintain water division inventory and order materials, equipment, and supplies as needed.
- Provide technical support to other divisions for infrastructure projects affecting the water system.
- Represent the Village at interagency and public meetings related to water operations.Requirements- Valid Illinois Driver's License and ability to obtain CDL Class B with appropriate endorsements within six months of hire.
- Possession of a valid Illinois EPA Class āCā Water Operator License or higher.
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in water distribution operations, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or management role preferred.
- Knowledge of SCADA operations, water system hydraulics, and water quality regulations.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, for public, interdepartmental, and regulatory interaction.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and utility software (Aclara or equivalent).
- Ability to work in varying environmental conditions and perform occasional field work.Physical Requirements- Work involves a mix of office and field environments with exposure to weather, noise, dust, and potential hazards.
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, and lifting over 25 pounds.
- Ability to climb, crawl, and work on uneven or elevated surfaces.
