The following essential skills are required for the role:
- Analytical acumen, modeling, research, and passion –The ideal candidate will have superior financial modeling skills and analytical capabilities and an eagerness to apply their expertise in support of the team. The ability to synthesize disparate information, identify the most important elements, and arrive at a conclusion is required. The Associate will be curious about lending to private growth stage companies and demonstrate a strong desire to identify differentiated investment opportunities through a thorough research and due diligence process.
- Superior collaboration and influencing skills – The successful candidate will be a self-directed, hard-working team player, who contributes to the investment efforts of the Growth Lending team. The successful candidate will enjoy contributing to a highly collaborative investment environment and will build strong trusting relationships internally with colleagues across the Private Investing and Investment Research teams as well as externally with potential issuers and financing partners. The ability to communicate (both verbally and in writing) and contribute to an open investment dialogue is required.

The Associate will have a global perspective and creative approach for analyzing growth lending transactions. Success in this role will open progression opportunities within the Growth Lending team and broader Wellington.
Responsibilities for this position will include the following:
- Conducting due diligence on prospective issuers;
- Preparing underwriting analysis;
- Drafting investment memos and participating in investment committee discussions;
- Monitoring private debt investments;
- Attending company management meetings and relevant industry conferences;
- Assisting with quarterly and annual reporting needs;
- Assisting with outbound market research, company mapping, and credit rating analysis;
- Building and managing internal databases including investment pipelines and investment partners; and
- Completing complex analytical projects under tight time constraints.
Additional qualifications and individual characteristics are likely to include:
- A minimum of 2-5 years of relevant experience on the buy- or sell-side within private credit or credit research, private equity, investment banking, or management consulting. An understanding of the venture capital/start-up ecosystem and/or the US growth lending market would be additive;
- Strong academic credentials: an undergraduate degree in finance, economics or accounting is preferred;
- Ability to organize, manage, and prioritize time well;
- Ability to work independently and make decisions in the face of uncertainty;
- Strict attention to detail: a demonstrated analytical, problem-solving ability is required;
- Independence of thought, an entrepreneurial nature, and a global perspective;
- Sound judgment, strong work ethic and highest personal and professional integrity;
- Interest and ability to a build network in the growth lending ecosystem including issuers, industry peers, venture capitalists and financing partners; and
- Willingness to travel.
