- Performs daily inspection of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems on passenger rail vehicles (rail equipment) using written task list within a specified time period.
- Conducts both interior and exterior inspections on rail equipment as required by federal and state regulatory agencies as well as company implemented policies and procedures.
- Completes equipment inspection forms, work order forms and other forms as required.
- Prioritizes and completes repairs within a specified time-period.
- Operates basic hand tools including digital multi-meters, pneumatic tools, and testing equipment in a safe, proficient manner.
- Cleans and maintains work area, tools, and shop equipment.
- May move passenger rail vehicle(s) within yard limits of the maintenance facility.
- Services restrooms on rail equipment including waste removal, potable water, and biocide replenishment.
- May operate pressure washer and wash rail equipment exterior with extended pole and brush.
- Facility maintenance and in-house repair of electrical and mechanical components may be required.
- Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.

- Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.

- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Possess proven experience in mechanical, electrical and/or pneumatic systems maintenance.
- Experience in automotive repair and troubleshooting, railroad equipment maintenance, diesel engine maintenance and repair, and HVAC repair.
- Certified forklift operator experience required.
- Railroad Engineer Certification, Maintenance Facility Operator Certification or successful completion of Company certification program (which includes on-the-job and classroom training, written, oral and hands-on testing) required.
- Possess valid driver’s license and clean driving record for previous three years.
- No Railroad Operating Rules violations within previous 2 years.
- Ability to participate in and successfully complete required on-going training and periodic written, oral and hands-on testing.
- Working knowledge and ability to use hand and pneumatic tools.
- Ability to learn new skills and abilities relative to the maintenance of rail equipment.
- Ability to follow written, oral and diagram form instructions.
- Ability to read and understand documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals, etc.
- Ability to understand and follow safety rules, work rules and company procedures.
- Ability to perform quality work efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, schedules, and overtime.
- Ability to work independently, and with other employees, without requiring assistance from, or disturbing the work of others, while in a team environment.
- Ability to complete tasks within a specified time period.
- Must be able to effectively change tasks at a moment's notice when the situation requires.
- Ability to read, understand and interpret equipment repair manuals relative to maintenance, repair and trouble shooting.
- Ability to accept constructive criticism.
- Ability to hear, interpret and orally transmit clear, accurate directions using a two- way radio required.
- Ability to occasionally operate overhead crane during heavy repair maintenance and loading/unloading trucks.
- Ability to occasionally drive a company vehicle during an emergency road call.
- Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
- Pass pre-employment DOT physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
- Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
- Regularly lift weight up to 75 pounds to a height of up to 56 inches.
- Regularly carry weight up to 75 pounds to a distance up to 100 feet.
- Regularly push/pull up to 50 pounds for a distance up to 50 feet.
- Regularly grasp or squeeze with forces up to 40 pounds.
- Regularly ascend and descend a 10 step ladder with up to 25 pounds. Frequently climb on/off equipment.
- Work in a confined access/space environment with a height of 12 inches and a width of 24 inches.
- Regularly kneel, bend, squat while transferring up to 25 pounds of weight.
- Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
- Able to walk on uneven surfaces up to 1 mile.
- Regularly lay on back for extended periods of time.
- Regularly reach overhead while holding tools.
- Must be able to be aware of surroundings and follow verbal commands while being exposed to moderately loud noises on a daily basis.
- Must be able to adapt to various temperature extremes including but not limited to heat, cold, moisture and wind.
- Must be able to work in a safety sensitive work environment.
- Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
- Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
