- Provide technical leadership and hands-on guidance to a team of machinists, fostering a culture of continuous learning, safety, and excellence in craftsmanship.
- Develop, optimize, and execute complex CNC programs for multi-axis milling and turning operations to produce custom components with extremely tight tolerances.
- Leverage advanced CAD/CAM software to simulate machining processes, identify efficiencies, and optimize material removal for challenging geometries.
- Rigorously inspect finished components using advanced metrology tools, ensuring absolute adherence to design specifications and GD&T requirements.
- Diagnose and resolve complex machining challenges, including tool wear issues, material inconsistencies, and fixture design improvements, driving root cause analysis.
- Collaborate proactively with engineering and assembly teams from concept to completion, providing valuable input on design for manufacturability and assembly.
- Champion best practices in machine maintenance, tooling selection, and shop organization to maximize uptime and operational efficiency.
- Train new machinists and cross-train existing team members on new techniques, software, and equipment to enhance overall team capability.
- 5+ years of progressive experience as a CNC Machinist, with 2+ years in a leadership, supervisory, or senior mentoring role, ideally in a custom machine building or tooling environment.
- Expert-level proficiency in CNC programming (G/M code) and setting up complex multi-axis CNC mills and lathes, with experience across various control systems.
- Demonstrated mastery of CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, SolidWorks CAM, Fusion 360) for advanced toolpath generation.
- Exceptional understanding and practical application of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) for critical part inspection.
- Proficient in using a wide array of precision measuring instruments and tools.
- In-depth knowledge of machining various industrial materials including tool steels, stainless steels, aluminum, and engineering plastics.
- Proven leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with an ability to mentor and inspire.
- Experience with 5-axis machining operations.
- Direct experience operating or programming Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles or continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., 5S).
- Ability to perform manual machining operations when required for prototypes or modifications.
