- Develop and implement CMM measurement processes for new part introductions including: fixturing/setups, CMM programming, CMM report, and standard work
- Manage four CMM labs equipment with day-to-day operations including addressing maintenance issues and CMM operator continuous improvement ideas.
- Assist Manufacturing Engineering team members with interpreting CMM reports and performing root cause / corrective actions to resolve out of tolerance issues.
- Develop and implement new technology to ensure measurement capabilities on all part drawing requirements.
- Candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering/technology or demonstrate equivalent knowledge through professional expertise in Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) programming.
- Working knowledge in usage and programming of modern CMM machines preferably Hexagon and Renishaw tooling.
- Measures components and weldments using modern CMM measurement
- Populates detailed inspection reports using PCDMIS on complex fabricated and machined components.
- Utilizes working knowledge of GD&T and cross references with established engineering print datums to ensure accurate coordinate systems.
- Gathers available information (Creo / VisMockup / TeamCenter) on fabricated components to ensure precise measurements are taken allowing for fixture modifications.
- Desires to continue learning through virtual and in person training to become the subject matter expert for factory inspections.
- Ability to adapt from developing measurement plans for a simple plate to a complex fabricated and machine frame.
- Identifies alternative approaches to encountered problems and proposes solutions to continue moving forward.
- Adapts to input from relevant value streams (Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, etc.) to ensure consistent inspection outputs.
- Understands and applies Caterpillar standards regarding tool auditing, execution of Quality Gates, and reporting procedures.
- Interprets component prints (PRWB/EPIX), Standard Work, and applies associated industry specifications (ASTM, ASME, 1E) for all associated inspection tasks.
- Determines true root cause of identified repeat failures (inspection, fabrication, machining) and proposes novel solutions based on process knowledge.
- Practices RCA as an iterative process.
