- Actively leads and participates in assigned hospital committees such as; Infection Control Committee, Quality and Safety.
- Provide supervision, coaching/mentoring and training of assigned staff.
- Assist in hiring, onboarding, engagement and disciplinary process for assigned staff.
- Oversees and assists with collection, review, analyses and interpretation of surveillance data and recommends appropriate actions to clinicians and administrators targeted to reduce or eliminate infectious risk in patients and staff.
- Oversees and assists with investigations of suspected infectious outbreaks among patients. Conducts activities related to exposure of patients to communicable diseases. Assesses all positive cultures.
- Oversees and assists with properly classifying infections as hospital acquired or community acquired through concurrent or retrospective review of the patient charts.
- Assists with plans, organizes, develops, coordinates and directs a hospital wide plan for the prevention, surveillance, and control of infection.
- Develops, review, evaluates and implements infection control policies and procedures to improve quality of care and meet current recommended guidelines.
- Functions as an educational resource in the areas related to infection control and Quality Improvement.
- Plans, develops and conducts in-service education programs for MHC employees.
- Communicates and collaborates with staff education coordinator regarding staff development activities. Participates in hospital orientation program, educating new staff about their role in infection control. Instructs hospital personnel in universal and specific infection control procedures.
- Acts as liaison between the Hospital, CDC, OSHA and the Public Health Department in the areas of communicable diseases; reports all reportable diseases to appropriate departments.
- Collaborates with and provides support as needed to the Employee Health Department.
- Demonstrates job related aspects of patient safety to assure a safe environment, safe and effective use of equipment and technology, and decreased risk of potential adverse patient occurrences.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and supports hospital mission, vision, value statements, standards of care, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality statements, corporate compliance plan, standards of behavior, and the code of ethical behavior.
- Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served on his/her assigned unit. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's and division's policies and procedures. - Provides infection control support to the Long-Term Care units.
- Review, analyzes, and interprets data from Quality Programs and recommends appropriate actions to clinicians and administrators to reduce patient harm.
- Maintains responsibility for assigned budgets. Participates in the annual planning and development of budgets for responsible departments.
- Other duties as assigned.
- BSN required
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Demonstrates knowledge of basic infection control and prevention practices as set forth by OSHA, MDHHS, CDC, APIC, and Joint Commission regulations.
- Certified in Infection Control (CIC) required or must be obtained within 3 years of hire into this position.
- Quality Improvement experience a plus.
- Ability to travel independently from one location to another throughout the hospital and hospital satellite offices.
- Requires frequent (40-60%) sitting or reading, standing and walking.
- Requires continuous (80% or more) performance of detailed tasks, interruptions, and changing work priorities.
- Ability to read and interpret a variety of documents including, but not limited to policies, operating instructions, white papers, regulations, rules and laws.
- Understand medical terminology.
- Conduct research/quality improvement studies.
- Develop reports.
- Identify relationships between events (epidemiology).
- Organize and file.
- Interpret lab data.
- Organize information and present to a variety of audiences in an understandable manner.
- Perform independently.
- Be proficient in the use of appropriate computer applications such as Microsoft Office including Excel spreadsheets for statistical tracking and reporting, and PowerPoint presentations.
- Be proficient in use of the internet to perform appropriate research.
- Communicate receptively and expressively in English, both written and spoken, with physicians, staff, volunteers, and patients.
- Read lab data, reports, etc.
- Maintain self-control.
- Accurately hear communication by phone or in person.
