The Supervisor of Surgery Scheduling will be responsible for overseeing all functions of insurance verification, authorization, and surgical case coordination. for surgical services.
Serves as the front-line working supervisor and utilizes skills to ensure that hospital inpatient, outpatient, and ambulatory surgeries are authorized, scheduled and coordinated properly.
Displays intimate knowledge of the surgical schedule; will be required to have an in-depth understanding of OR availability and utilization. Coordinates with Perioperative and/or management to ensure appropriate booking of all surgical/endoscopic cases in LFCC and OCH.
Supervises the department's surgical scheduling and financial clearance staff. Incorporates and implements standard work and productivity metrics. Assists in hiring, firing, training and counseling in collaboration with leadership and HR
Displays knowledge of financial clearance processes including insurance verification, authorization, and LOA processing.
Provides coverage for surgical coordination of cases, including the scheduling of pre-operative/ancillary testing, communication with patients of surgery details, along with pre-certification and authorization with third party payors. - Troubleshoots and corrects scheduling issues within scope of control and escalates issues to the Manager.
- Follows established City of Hope Financial Clearance , Operating Room Scheduling Guidelines, and departmental policies, procedures, objectives performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines including adherence to the workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan.
- Establishes and modifies employee remote work schedules ensuring adequate coverage.
- Organizes work flow to minimize service delays and overtime expenses.
- Supervises team productivity, turn-around-times, and quality of work.
- Addresses personnel, production, and scheduling issues as they arise.
- Assures that standard work and check lists are reviewed and revised on a regular and routine basis
- In collaboration with the Peri-OP and Clinic management team, sets goals and objectives for FCS and scheduling team
- Collects and reports measurement statistics reflecting operational activity and productivity of the individual schedulers and departments.
- Associates degree; 2 additional years of experience plus the minimum experience requirement may substitute for minimum education.
- Five years' experience in surgery scheduling and financial clearance.
- 2 years of experience in a lead/supervisory capacity.
