We are currently seeking a motivated and dependable Production Assistant to join our operations team.Position Summary:As a Production Assistant at Ferrous Metals, you'll play a vital role in supporting our coil processing and packaging operations. Working closely with skilled operators in a dynamic, hands-on environment, you'll be responsible for safely packaging steel coils, inspecting materials for quality, and maintaining a clean and efficient work area. You'll use tools like crimpers and hand tools daily and will be trained to accurately follow packaging instructions, read measuring devices, interpret work orders, and recognize quality issues. Hours may fluctuate based on business levels
Mandatory overtime may be required
Flexibility with scheduling is essential
Responsibilities:
Obtain and follow detailed packaging instructions
Band and/or skid all coils and mults according to customer requirements
Inspect coils and mults for damage or quality concerns and promptly report issues to the operator
Assist the operator with various tasks as needed
Maintain adequate levels of packaging supplies in your assigned area
Keep work areas clean, organized, and free from safety hazards
Support other areas of the production line as required
Required Skills & Abilities:
Must be at least 18 years of age
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly
Willingness and ability to learn:
How to read measuring devices accurately
Proper use of hand tools and crimpers
How to identify and report quality issues
How to read and understand tag and work order information
How to follow written and verbal packaging instructions
Production line processes and capacity awareness
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions carefully
Strong attention to detail, quality, and safety
Dependable, punctual, and a strong team player
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment is a plus but not required
