The Dental Assistant I (DA I) at Honor Community Health (HCH) is an essential part of our high-performing dental care team. This is a full-time, non-exempt position that reports to the Lead Dental Assistant. The DA I provides direct and indirect patient care while assisting dentists in delivering evidence-based patient-centered care. The DA I is also responsible for completing general office duties and patient records, as well as monitoring various dental processes. To excel in this position, the Dental Assistant should prioritize building and maintaining strong relationships within HCH’s centers and with the administrative team. Working closely with colleagues will foster a culture of excellence and a shared commitment to delivering compassionate, high-quality dental care to all.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Patient-Centered Care: * Adheres to the guidelines, procedures, and protocols established by the Medical Director and Dental Administrator.
  • Provides dental support and related functions including routine and non-routine technical procedures while providing direct chair-side assistance to the treating dentist.
  • Uses a variety of dental techniques to perform required laboratory work; trim and pour diagnostic models; make custom trays, fabricate temporaries, base plates and templates for crown and bridgework, writes laboratory prescriptions, prepares models, and prepares models to be sent to outside laboratory technicians.
  • Works with the treating dentist to perform intra-oral and panographic x-ray films of patients.
  • Works with the treating dentist to take dental impressions.
  • Renders basic first aid or CPR when necessary.
Clinic and Office Operations * During every patient visit, record all necessary data elements in the EDR/EMR system including:
  • Patient Information
  • Medical History update
  • Treatment Plan
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and strictly follows HIPAA regulations.
  • Seats patients in operatory according to established workflow
  • Responsible for equipment cleaning, and routine maintenance according to manufacturer and CDC guidelines.
  • Maintains organized tray set-ups for the treating Dentist. Stock operatory as directed.
  • At the discretion of the treating Dentist, provide the patient with a treatment plan and follow-up instructions.
  • Disinfects operatory before and after each patient following CDC and ADA guidelines.
  • Cleans, disinfects, bags, and sterilizes instruments following CDC infection control guidelines.
  • Utilizes personal protective equipment (PPE) following Honor policy and universal precautions
  • Assists with waterline maintenance and testing as required by CDC.
  • Assist with the scheduling of patient appointments as appropriate.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and huddles.
  • Aids in collecting data for audits.
  • Assists with tracking stock levels keeping a list of what needs to be ordered.
  • Excels in a fast-paced office environment, adapting to the every-changing patients’ needs and workflow requirements of HCH.
  • Adheres to the standards of the dental assistant’s scope of practice and functions efficiently within it.
  • Assists with both internal and external referral processes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. During a public health emergency, the employee may be required to perform duties like but not limited to those in the job description.
What are we looking for?
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of a technical program for a dental assistant is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification must be maintained.
  • 3+ months in a similar dental assisting position is required.
