The RN - IV Therapy provides direct patient care with a focus on intravenous therapy. This includes initiating and managing IV lines, administering IV medications and fluids, and monitoring patient responses. The RN applies critical thinking and nursing knowledge to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care. This role collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and acts as an advocate for patient well-being, delivering high-quality, compassionate care across various patient populations.
Essential Functions
Administers IV therapy and medications as prescribed
Initiates and manages peripheral and central venous access devices
Monitors and documents patient condition and treatment response
Collects specimens and performs treatments within scope
Assists with patient hygiene, ambulation, nutrition, and elimination
Coordinates patient care with physicians and interdisciplinary team members
Educates patients and families regarding IV therapy and related care needs
Maintains accurate and timely documentation in the medical record
Ensures patient privacy, dignity, and safety at all times
Participates in quality improvement and performance initiatives
Complies with all infection control, HIPAA, and regulatory policies

Clinical environment with exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous substances
May require evening, weekend, or holiday shifts depending on patient needs
QualificationsEducation
Graduate of an accredited nursing program required
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred
Licenses/Certifications
Current RN license in state of practice
Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required within timeframe required in facility policy
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - Preferred
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - Preferred
12-Lead ECG certification - Preferred
Experience
Prior experience in IV therapy or acute care nursing preferred
