Position Description: Directional Drilling/Boring Crew LaborerBusiness Unit: HDDSchedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 am, end time varies based on job scheduleTravel: Required 75-100%Position Type: Full-TimeJob Description: The Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) Technician assists in building each job as defined by the client’s scope of work and construction drawings under the direction of the HDD Crew Leader. This includes understanding the scope of work and constructing the project per specifications in a timely manner with an emphasis on operating the vacuum excavator for potholing utilities and placing hand holes for a horizontal drilling rig.KERA’s – Key Essential Responsibility Areas for this position:Construction Site Responsibilities
  • Review the scope of work and construction drawings with the Crew Leader.
  • Assist in verifying that all materials for the project are taken to the job site.
  • Load and unload all tools and equipment.
  • Verify that all the tools, equipment and stocked supplies on your trailer are available and in working order.
  • Attend a daily tailgate meeting to address daily tasks and safety issues. Report any safety concerns to the Crew Leader.
  • Take direction from Crew Leader to build the job following the scope of work/construction drawings.
  • Report any deviations from the scope of work or construction drawings to the crew Leader.
  • Begin preparations for next job.
  • Clean out truck(s) & trailer(s) after each job and put materials and equipment away.
Drilling Operations Responsibilities
  • Pick up trash on site daily.
  • Pothole for utilities with a vacuum excavator
  • Operate mini backhoe for placement of hand holes and the backfilling of dirt as needed on the job.
  • Assist Boring rig operator and locator in the splicing of conduit, pulling of fiber through conduit, filling of water for rig operation, and any other duties that are needed to directionally bore.
Fleet/Equipment Responsibilities
  • Check the oil & fluids of each truck & piece of equipment in your charge before use.
Requirements – Employees will need to be able to perform the following:Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to work in all types of weather.
  • Knowledge of underground potholing preferred.
  • Self-motivated, safety, quality and production minded.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and follow all quality/safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to travel as required.
Educational Development and Qualifications:
  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must complete and pass a pre-employment drug & alcohol screen.
  • Must be able to pass background and pre-employment physical.
Physical, Mental, and Visual Effort:
  • Must be able to work long hours, weekends and occasional overnights if needed.
