Tucson, AZ 85718Principal Responsibilities:Summary:A primary function of this and every other job at the "J" is to ensure by whatever rational and legal means necessary that each member, guest and visitor leaves the "J" feeling just a little better than when they arrived.Position Summary:The Fitness Director plays a key leadership role at the Tucson JCC, overseeing and advancing the organization's commitment to excellence in fitness and wellness programming, and healthy aging. This position is responsible for providing leadership, operational oversight, and staff supervision to ensure a dynamic, inclusive, clean and welcoming environment for members of all ages and backgrounds. The Fitness and Wellness Director will manage department budgets, drive member participation, and foster a culture of customer service grounded in Jewish values. The Fitness and Wellness Director must be a collaborative leader who is detail oriented, organized, flexible, and able to handle multiple projects and balance multiple priorities. As the Fitness and Wellness Director, you'll have the opportunity to innovate, lead, and make a lasting impact on the health and well-being of our vibrant and diverse community.Core Areas of Responsibility:1. Departmental Leadership and Supervision
  • Provide direct supervision and mentorship to the Fitness Center Coordinator, Personal Trainers and Director of Healthy Aging.
  • Create and Manage specialty programs and trainings for staff.
  • Assign potential personal training clients and Jump Starts to personal trainers in a fair and efficient system.
  • Work with Fitness Center Coordinator to counsel Health and Wellness staff as needed on appropriate responses, behavior, and dress.
  • Foster a collaborative, team-based environment that promotes innovation, staff development, and high-quality service delivery.
  • Ensure consistent communication, goal-setting, and performance evaluation across all supervised areas.
  • Attend staff meetings and hold department meetings for communication of events, new resources, and general announcements.
  • Collaborate cross-departmentally with Marketing and Membership to support program visibility and engagement.
2. Fitness & Wellness
  • Partner with the Fitness Center Coordinator to provide day-to-day operations and strategic direction of the fitness center.
  • Recruit, supervise, train and evaluate all fitness floor staff, personal trainers and other part-time staff, as needed.
  • Ensure programming meets diverse community needs and industry best practices.
  • Support the development of innovative group fitness, personal training, and wellness initiatives that align with JCC mission and values.
  • Respond to complaints from individuals and groups in a way that is empathetic, objective and non-judgmental, and find solutions.
  • Respond quickly and calmly in emergencies (direct police/fire department response teams to appropriate areas).Know how to respond to emergency situations as outlined in the JCC's Emergency Protocol Manual.
  • Be familiar with the general daily schedule of programs and activities and with the current schedule of programs/classes.
3. Healthy Aging
  • Partner with the Director of Healthy Aging to ensure the delivery of responsive, inclusive, and impactful services.
  • Support programming and partnerships that enhance quality of life for older adults through social, physical, and intellectual engagement.
4. Budget and Fiscal Management
  • Develop and manage annual budgets for fitness and wellness, and healthy aging.
  • Manage purchase orders and check requests for fitness-related purchases.
  • Oversee purchase orders, billing, and complete payroll in alignment with budgetary guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, nationally recognized personal training certification, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • CPR, AED, First Aid Certifications
  • Proven experience managing a diverse team and creating a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence.
