Position SummaryFunding available through 7/31/2025; continuance beyond that date is possible, subject to the Department's operational needs as outlined in UBPPM #3200, Employee Classifications,The Department of Neurosciences seeks a Sr. Research Scientist 2 to perform research on the effect of alcohol on neuronal circuits and will involve working with laboratory animals. Techniques to be used include immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, slice electrophysiology, and behavioral assessments.Independently interprets, organizes, executes, and coordinates research assignments. Formulates and conducts research on problems of considerable scope and complexity. Explores subject area and defines scope and selection of problems for investigation through conceptually related studies or series of projects of lesser scope.This is a full-time, benefits eligible position.The University of New Mexico (UNM) provides a diversified package of benefits including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.   • Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check. Additional health screenings may be required, dependent on the nature of the research conducted, as determined by Employee Occupational Health Services.
Minimum QualificationsMaster's degree; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred QualificationsPh.D. in Neuroscience, pharmacology, or a related field.Experience with:路 Working with laboratory animals, particularly mice (including managing transgenic mice colonies)路 Biomedical laboratory research, including techniques such as immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, electrophysiology, stereotaxic injections, optogenetics, and/or behavioral experiments.路 Making research presentations路 Publishing research findings
