The Pool Manager will manage one of the three seasonal outdoor facilities. The Pool manager is responsible for the safety and health of the staff and patrons of the facility by routine maintenance of equipment and chemicals. The Pool Manager will work in coordination with the Aquatic Manager to develop site specific aquatic programming as well as enforcement of rules, policies and procedures.This is a Safety Sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.Education / higher education: High School Graduate or equivalentOther requirements: At least 18 years of age with 12 months of Lifeguard or Head Lifeguard experience.Education and/or experience preferences: Experience in public relations and customer service.Driver's License requirement: Infrequent Driver -- Regular Driver's License Required Endorsements: NoneNote -- For any driver, driving record must always meet City driving and insurability standards.Required certifications, licenses or registrations: 1. Current Water Safety Instructor's Certificate. 2. Current Standard First Aid Instructor's Certificate. 3. Current Lifeguard Certificate (includes first aid). 4. Current American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer Certificate.Preferred certifications, licenses or registrations: NoneKnowledge: Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation. Water hazards, rescue methods, lifesaving techniques, and first aid as applied to accidents in the pool environment. Pool equipment, facilities, chlorination, and sanitation. Methods of handling, depositing, and accounting for money received. Federal, state, county, and local health regulations as they pertain to the operation of public pools. Personal computer operation and software applications. Principles and practices of organizing and conducting public recreation and aquatics programs. Instructional techniques and methods for recreation and aquatics programs for a variety of skills and abilities.Skills: Must be able to type rapidly and accurately enough to successfully produce documents/spreadsheets, communicate via e-mail, or perform data entry as necessary to accomplish the essential functions of the position. Use of technology, equipment and software typically used in the office environment. Public relations and customer service skills.Abilities: Demonstrate leadership in effectively managing the aquatics facility. Develop, in coordination with supervisor, program standards and objectives. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Deal effectively with co-workers, subordinates, public and the program needs of the aquatics staff and other City staff and deal tactfully with individuals encountered in the course of work. Solve disciplinary problems effectively. Operate a personal computer, applicable software applications, and other new technology. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Swim with proficiency and endurance and meet standards of swimming competency as may be established by the City of Rio Rancho.Interaction with Groups/Agencies/Entities: Internal: Works with other pool managers and supervisors on routine assignments. Maintains harmonious, courteous, and understanding relationships, while fostering a collaborative teamwork environment. External: Works with the general public and resolves complaints. Presents a friendly, courteous image for the City to the general public, customers, and public officials.The following functions are typical for this position.   • Supervises all aspects of the facility, to include but not limited to: employees, facility grounds, patrons, equipment and chemicals, emergency and first-aid situations and the swim lesson deck supervisor.
  • Creates schedules for the aquatics staff.
  • Assists in the pool area, ground maintenance and cleanliness.
  • Performs life guarding and instructional duties, when necessary.
  • Attends all training sessions and in-service trainings.
  • Works in cooperation with the Aquatics Manager.
