JOB SUMMARYThe primary responsibilities of the Business Services Specialist include enhancing communications and work flows between reporting areas and implementing performance improvement and other operational initiatives in collaboration with leadership team members as needed. The position coordinates with and supports Informatics in the oversight and management of the registration, authorization and scheduling modules and related software for Lake View Hospital. Assists in the review and analysis of system issues and resolves issues with various vendors or IT to improve registration, authorization, and scheduling processes. The Business Services Specialist also provides backup support for clinic business office functions related to office visit coding, charge entry and prior authorizations, in addition to supporting hospital billing and charge reconciliation by processing claims, posting electronic remittances, communicating with third party payers and collection agencies. Position provides these services for the primary contact during scheduled time off and as needed.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation: High School diploma or equivalent.Experience: Three (3) years experience performing medical registration, business office and/or systems support functions.Licensure/Certification/Registration: N/APREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Associates degree or above.Experience: Training and/or experience in follow-up or collection technique, medical terminology, medical records coding and managed care reimbursement.Licensure/Certification/Registration: N/AKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESKnowledge of and experience in payment and coverage practices and terminology used by contracted payers, such as would be obtained with one (1) to two (2) years of retail credit and collections experience in a provider, or related, patient account office or carrier or fiscal intermediary claims or medical review responsibilities. Verbal and written communication skills as would allow for effective interaction with carriers and patients. Reading comprehension skills as would provide for a comprehensive understanding of the various payer agreements to which the hospital is bound. Knowledge of and experience in basic follow-up/collection techniques. Ability to organize and service a large volume of information. Ability to write legibly, see, hear, read and speak English.READING - Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.WRITING - Basic: Ability to write simple correspondence.SPEAKING - Basic: Ability to speak simple sentences.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Intermediate Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw or interpret bar graphs to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.REASONING ABILITY - Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
