
Principal Software Cloud Engineer - Hybrid Cloud Platform Owner

- Work on an agile team as a product owner with responsibilities for improving capabilities, delivering high availability and performance, partnering with internal customers and platform consumers, new feature evaluation and prioritization, and lifecycle management within the hybrid cloud product.
- Develop the roadmap: Lead the strategy and execution for hybrid cloud and migration solutions, supporting a highly automated global private cloud ecosystem with cutting edge modern application services.
- Drive migration initiatives: Partner with app owners, architects, and business stakeholders to plan, coordinate, and execute changes to modernize critical workloads.
- Bridge Hybrid Environments: Design and implement architectures that ensure seamless interoperability across on-premises cloud, public cloud, and edge platforms, always with an eye on efficiency, security, and performance.
- Champion Cost Optimization: Work closely with FinOps and finance teams to build business cases, model TCO/ROI, and track cloud and on-prem spend. Drive cost transparency and optimization initiatives.
- Enable Automation & Modernization: Identify and implement opportunities for automation, CI/CD integration, and infrastructure-as-code within hybrid cloud environments.
- Lead & Mentor: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to both onshore and offshore partners; foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate roadmap, benefits, risks, and progress to business and technical teams. Gather feedback, conduct analysis, and iterate to deliver value to our stakeholders.
- Document & Share Knowledge: Maintain up-to-date system diagrams, playbooks, and standard operating procedures.
- Monitor Industry Trends: Support R&D and engineering with emerging technologies and best practices—helping Medtronic adapt and adopt to accelerate innovation initiatives.

- Bachelor’s degree
- 7+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or 5+ years of experience with an advanced degree
- Strongly Preferred:
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code implementations leveraging tools like Terraform, Aria, Ansible, JSON
- Experience with Kubernetes implementation at the infrastructure deployment and provisioning level
- 3+ years of hands-on experience designing, deploying, and managing VMware infrastructure (virtualized environments, hybrid cloud, and migration projects).
- Experience troubleshooting hybrid cloud deployments and associated components (storage, networking, compute, Operating Systems)
- Strong experience leading technical teams or projects, especially across multiple time zones and cultures.
- Ability to translate business needs into actionable technical requirements and user stories.
- Experience with container platforms (Kubernetes, Docker, Tanzu, OpenShift, Rancher), especially in hybrid or migration scenarios.
- Experience with hardware supporting GPU enabled AI/ML and or High-Performance Computing environments
- Working knowledge of DevOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code in cloud computing settings.
- Proficient with scripting/automation.
- Experience with topics such as IT cost management, FinOps, TCO analysis, chargeback/showback, and cloud spend optimization.
- Background in network/storage troubleshooting and optimization.
- Knowledge of data migration tools and methodologies (e.g., Azure Migrate, AWS MGN, VMware HCX).
- Experience collaborating with or mentoring global/offshore teams.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, and change management skills.
- Experience supporting infrastructure and operations for predictive analytics, AI/ML, or automation in IT delivery.
