At Avail, our people empower and define who we are. Our shared values are the foundation for building strong, trusting relationships with our employees and customers. We're small enough for your ideas to make an immediate impact and large enough to offer you opportunities to grow professionally at any stage of your career.JOB PURPOSE:
Perform a wide range of engineering functions involving the design and development of CGIT products and develop new and improved designs. Support the research and development function to improve or enhance existing designs, and to ensure that the CGIT product line remains current with industry requirements and standards.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (other duties may be assigned):
  • Design of CGIT systems for and electrical design parameters. Tasks include design, drafting follow and development of testing parameters.
  • Perform electrical stress analysis on components and modify shapes to reduce and minimize electrical stresses.
  • Perform original design work and maintain compliance with industry standards for the CGIT product line or special products.
  • Maintain complete electrical specifications for the CGIT product line including IEC, ANSI, NEMA, and CENELEC standards.
  • Work closely with vendors and CGIT Systems Purchasing to develop and qualify new vendors for CGIT materials.
  • Originate and implement cost improvements in the CGIT product line.
  • Instruct other engineers in methods of design to ensure electrical integrity of all CGIT products for commercial orders.
  • Write reports as required for internal and external documentation of activities.
  • Specific Technical responsibilities may include:
  • Detailed electrical design to support specific customer requirements.
  • Dielectric design and analysis of CGIT components and systems using finite element computer models and hand calculations.
  • Dielectric design using specific properties and performance parameters for SF6 and non-SF6 dielectric systems.
  • Provide expert support for the electrical parameters used for CGIT design and have a working knowledge and basic skills in the structural and mechanical aspects of the product.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Equipment Used: General office equipment (telephone, computer, fax, copier, etc.)
  • Knowledge/Skills: Familiarity with IEC, ANSI, and NEMA standards relating to SF6 and non-SF6 products and pressure vessels. Experience with power systems engineering and testing techniques including dielectric, continuous current and short circuit current. Excellent written and verbal communications skills are required.
  • Education/Experience: Minimum BSEE or BS Physics with 3 years' experience in the design and development of transmission voltage electrical equipment. Experience using Electro, Coulomb, COMSOL or similar software to perform electrical stress analysis on electrical components including insulators. Modify component geometry to reduce and minimize electrical stress. Functional ability using AutoCAD or Inventor
