- Communicate and document the patient’s status and behavior legibly, accurately, and in a timely manner.
- Consistently record and/or report to the Milieu Specialist or Charge Nurse any treatments, results, observations, patient complaints, and other pertinent information regarding the condition of the patient.
- Perform daily patient care tasks, including feeding and bathing patients as needed. Performs basic housekeeping tasks required to maintain patient living areas, which may include cleaning soiled beds and floors.
- Orient patients to the unit. Assist with body/contraband checks/searches.
- Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge processes under the guidance of the Charge/Staff Nurse.
- Utilize least restrictive and most facilitative measures to de-escalate patients, such as 1:1 conversation (“1:1”), diversional activities, groups, peer support, or decreased stimuli.
- Assist in providing intervention and/or management of inappropriate behavior in the milieu. Available for 1:1 interaction with patients. Demonstrate skills in co-leading groups and activities.
- Complete rounds and document findings accurately and timely, in accordance with hospital policy and procedures.
- Follow appropriate observation level for patient: every 15 minutes or 1:1. Utilizes and monitors for specific precautions as ordered.
QualificationsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
- Current CPR certification required.
- Must be able to interact positively with patients whose behavior may be difficult, uncooperative or aggressive;
- Must be capable of adapting to varying workloads and work assignments on a constant basis;
- Must be able to perform concentrated and/or complex mental activity with frequent involvement in complex and/or highly technical situations;
- Must be able to work successfully under highly stressful conditions;
- Must be able to make sound, independent judgments based on scientific and/or ethical principles;
- Must be able to comprehend and perform oral and written instructions and procedures;
- Must be able to collaborate with other multidisciplinary team members in an appropriate fashion;
- Must have effective comprehensive reading skills, strong communication skills, written and verbal.
- Must possess a valid California Driver’s License in order to transport patients and/or staff, or drive hospital vehicles.
