- Manages the day-to-day operations for assigned claims staff by establishing schedules and priorities, coaches employees in reviewing, analyzing, investigating, negotiating and settling claims in compliance with Kemper Claims Standards.
- Responsible for oversight of claim files (non-litigated or litigated) within aligned unit to include reviews on open inventory and review of files to assess overall quality.
- Builds a high performing, results-oriented staff, assists with employee on-boarding, ongoing development, and managing individual performance through on-going coaching focused on competencies and technical skills.
- Coaches to improve technical expertise throughout the claim process.
- Leads and effectively contributes to a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
- Monitors, evaluates and authorizes, within assigned authority limits, claim reserves, settlements and payments that exceed staff authority.
- Leverages analytics to monitor assigned claims staff production, inventory, quality and results.
- Monitors KPIs to ensure production and quality goals are met. Remains abreast of existing, proposed, and new legislation affecting the industry.
- Drives, interprets and communicates current Company policies, change initiatives, claim developments and procedural changes.
- Prepares and conduct performance and competency assessments.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Five years claims handling experience preferred.
- Three years supervisory experience, or equivalent leadership experience, preferred
- Proficiency with computer skills to include Microsoft Suite products and web-based applications.
- Must obtain and maintain state licensing where applicable.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and meet qualifications to operate a company vehicle under the Company’s Vehicle Policy.
- Comprehensive understanding of insurance policies and knowledge of relevant state laws and regulations governing auto insurance claims.
- Time management skills ensuring deadlines are met for claim resolution.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with various stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills to lead team in making informed claim handling decisions.
