- Lead process audits including heat and mass balance measurements and calculations to identify improvement opportunities
- Lead studies on raw materials and fuels to determine and evaluate potential improvements and impact on quality and efficiency
- Identify process/production limitations and sources of waste in the process and define corrective actions.
- Conduct fan audits to assess efficiency and identify opportunities for improvement
- Provide facts & data for evaluating system improvement opportunities.
- Assist with implementation of system improvements & projects.
- Contribute to optimization of plant fuel and power consumption and cost.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement.
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures / manuals for key manufacturing processes
- Develop and present technical training
- Facilitate trials and production of new products
- Establish baseline & process limits (benchmarking) for major equipment
- Contribute to the safe operation of equipment by ensuring equipment alarm limits are properly set for critical parameters
- Support plants with operation of equipment in a way to minimize emissions and within permit limits
- Know the main impacts of lime plant operation on environment and the main available abatement technologies: Gas and dust emissions (NOx, SO2, HCl, CO2,HF Heavy metals, organics, etc)
- Define together with the Regional Environmental Manager the process conditions which allow plants to comply with all current and future environmental regulations
- Contribute to preparation of permit applications
- Team player with positive and proactive mindset
- Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision on multiple projects
- Technical aptitude and strong analytical skills
- Detail oriented with strong problem-solving skills
- Able to work effectively in a cross-disciplinary way with all levels of organization.
- Able and willing to spend time in the plants working with the Operators, Supervisors, and Managers
- Excellent communication, presentation and technical writing skills
- Proficient with Excel (advanced), PowerPoint and Word
- Knowledge of the lime/minerals manufacturing processes including various kiln, milling, firing, stone preparation crushing/sizing & hydrator systems
- Working knowledge of process control, instrumentation and automation
- Proficient in statistical process control and data analysis
- In-depth knowledge of environmental standards and control technologies
- Ability to travel up to 30% to Lhoist sites
- Must be physically able to perform work assigned.
- Must be physically capable of accessing all plant, terminal, and office locations as needed.
- Tolerate working outside in weather conditions as well as exposure to industrial high temperature, noise and dust.
- Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.
- Will be working in an office, mining, and lime processing environment.
- The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Metallic Particles.
- The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing and sitting.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, structural, civil or chemical engineering preferred.
- BS in Engineering
- 2-5+ years process engineering
- Lime, cement or minerals industry process experience preferred.
