Excellent communication skills and a commitment to providing the highest quality client service are strongly preferred.POSITION SUMMARY
Ensures timely and accurate invoicing of clients; fiduciary oversight of client trust accounts; facilitates the understanding and use of existing financial data; develops reports to meet specific needs; and ensures that all client billing and trust accounting functions are in accordance with firmwide policies and procedures. Identifies opportunities for process improvements; recommends new processes and technology to improve efficiency and cash flow; coordinates and facilitates the Accounting Department services for the local office(s), and is responsible for coordinating daily workflow and supervising department staff.KEY RELATIONSHIPS
Director of Administration, Administrative Partner, Finance Department, lawyers, administrative staffESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Manages the daily accounting functions including, planning, prioritizing, directing work flow, acting as a resource for questions, and interfacing with senior management
  • Ensures that internal/external customer questions/problems are responded to and resolved in an expeditious manner to deliver excellent customer service
  • Provides mentoring of team and identifies professional development opportunities; monitors and manages projects
  • Develops ad hoc reports/charts/analysis
  • Prepares and interprets data to help guide financial decisions and direction
  • Provides support to the Firmwide finance team in the annual audit, and various projects supporting a variety of initiatives across the firm
  • Prepares for Firmwide 1099 reporting
  • Handles responses to partners for historical client accounting information
  • Processes invoices, noting the accuracy and completeness of bills prior to mailing to the client and obtaining the necessary approvals for write-ups or write-offs
  • Coordinates staff billing and ebilling activities
  • Provides back-up trust accounting coverage when necessary
  • Oversees timely deposits of daily receipts
  • Reviews and assists with accounts payable as requested by firmwide Accounts Payable Department processing check requests through Basware and expenses through Concur
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
  • Assist with special projects, assignments, and other duties as assigned
  • Recommends training and cross training for staff as needed; workload distribution
EXPERIENCE SKILLS REQUIRED
  • Familiarity with general ledger chart of accounts
  • Ability to communicate and respond to inquiries/requests with diplomacy and tact
  • Ability to oversee multiple functions while leading and directing the staff
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Must be detail oriented and organized
  • Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy
  • Understanding of financial accounting systems preferably in a law firm setting
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software including Excel
  • Financial reporting and report-writing experience required
  • Extensive prior professional services billing experience required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to meet obligations with confidentiality, integrity and sensitivity
  • 5-10 years of accounting and professional experience with 5 years as a manager, previous law firm experience desired
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting preferred
ADDITIONAL ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • This job operates in an office setting and is largely sedentary, requiring the routine use of a computer and other standard office equipment. The ability to open file cabinets, lift files, bend and stand on a stool may also be required.
