Employment: Full-time, Direct Hire • Relocation: Considered for the right candidate
Why this role
Own the global strategy for high-impact commodities at a market-leading manufacturer. You’ll reshape the supply base, lock in cost/cash wins, raise quality & delivery performance, and sit at the table for NPI decisions—influencing material selection and DFX early, not after the PO. This is a highly visible role partnering across Engineering, Operations, Quality, Finance, and Logistics with clear runway to Director/Senior Director.
What you’ll lead
- Drive category strategy and complex, auditable contract negotiations; select and steer strategic suppliers to meet cost, cash, service, and technology roadmaps.
- Build a high-performing supplier portfolio: scorecards, site audits, credit/organizational reviews, and continuous improvement tied to PPV, OTD, PPM, inventory turns.
- Be the sourcing voice in NPI: qualify new/updated materials, coordinate samples, and lead approval/inspection with Quality & Engineering.
- Set inventory targets; forecast swings; cut obsolescence/scrap; expand VMI and kanban where it makes sense.
- Troubleshoot quality/continuity risks fast to prevent line-down and adverse costs; own root cause and corrective actions with suppliers.
- Monitor market, logistics, and regulatory shifts; brief leadership on risks/opportunities and execute mitigation plans.
- Ensure trade compliance (country of origin, HTS codes) and international shipping requirements.
- Provide day-to-day direction to buyers; mentor the team and elevate sourcing discipline across the business.
- 7+ years in strategic sourcing/commodity management with a track record negotiating complex procurement and delivering measurable results.
- Bachelor’s in Business, Economics, Engineering, or related field.
- Strength in supplier relationship management, cross-functional leadership, and clear executive communication.
- Working knowledge of mechanical/electrical components and common manufacturing processes; able to engage engineering at a technical level.
- Experience with MRP (JDE a plus) and advanced Excel/analytics; comfortable managing projects from strategy through implementation.
- Willingness for domestic and occasional international travel.
