- Lead and manage the legal, compliance and privacy functions, including managing outside counsel and future legal hires
- Responsible for identifying, defining and executing on business goals and metrics for the legal, compliance and privacy functions in the context of broader business and company objectives
- Provide practical, business-oriented legal advice across corporate, commercial, product, privacy, and regulatory domains to all stakeholders
- Oversight of drafting, negotiating, and reviewing a wide range of agreements including vendor, partnership, licensing, and commercial contracts
- Advise on and support regulatory compliance with applicable federal and state financial services laws, including consumer protection laws, privacy regulations and marketing practices
- Collaborate with product, marketing and engineering teams to ensure existing and new features and initiatives are compliant with applicable laws and industry standards
- Manage corporate governance matters and support fundraising, M&A, and strategic transactions
- Develop and implement training, policies, and internal controls to promote a strong compliance culture
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the executive team and the Board of Directors on all legal and regulatory matters
- J.D. from a top-tier law school and membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar
- 10+ years of legal experience, including a mix of top-tier law firm and in-house counsel roles
- Significant experience advising technology-driven, consumer-facing businesses, ideally in financial services or fintech
- Demonstrated experience with providing innovative legal counsel to building new products and product development, privacy, regulatory compliance, and commercial contract negotiation
- Proven ability to think strategically and apply sound, pragmatic legal judgment in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
- A collaborative, low-ego approach with the ability to influence cross-functional teams
- Exceptional attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills
- Deep knowledge of consumer financial regulations and an understanding of key stakeholders (including consumers and regulators)
- Experience leading and scaling a legal/compliance/privacy functionExperience working with an executive team and boards of directors
