Job Category: Revenue Cycle & CodingJob Description: Primary Duties And ResponsibilitiesThe Clinical Documentation Specialist facilitates quality and completeness of clinical documentation in the legal health record to ensure appropriate reimbursement and clinical severity is captured for the level of service rendered to patients.This position coordinates with physicians, various members of clinical teams, administration and the medical coding staff to support comprehensive medical record documentation that reflects clinical treatment, clinical decisions, and diagnoses for inpatients.Gathers and analyzes information pertinent to documentation findings and outcomes.Identifies opportunities for improvement and strategies to correct negative trends.Develops and provides education to all internal customers related to compliance, coding, and clinical documentations issues.Acts as a consultant to coders regarding additional information or documentation needed to assign correct DRG.Reconciles CDI baseline DRGs against final coded DRGs and ensures the correct financial impact is attributed weekly.Participates in routine education to improve their coding and clinical documentation performance.Abides by the standards of Ethical Coding and Clinical Documentation Improvement as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and adheres to official coding and reporting guidelines.Performs other duties as assigned.Qualifications:Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in a healthcare field or equivalent experience required.
  • 5 years' experience in an acute care setting required.
  • Master's degree in healthcare field or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Experience in CDI, coding, utilization review and knowledge of regulatory standards and reimbursement requirements preferred.
