- Operate horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment to bore underground pathways for the installation of pipelines, conduits, and utility lines.
- Conduct pre-job inspections of drilling equipment and ensure proper setup and calibration.
- Review project plans, blueprints, and specifications to determine the drilling path and required depths.
- Use specialized locating equipment to identify the location of existing underground utilities, ensuring their avoidance during the drilling process.
- Collaborate with project managers, surveyors, and utility companies to obtain accurate utility maps and locate underground facilities.
- Operate electronic locating devices, such as ground-penetrating radar (GPR) and electromagnetic locators, to mark the positions of utilities.
- Maintain accurate records of drilling activities, including distances drilled, depths reached, and utility locations.
- Monitor drilling operations to ensure adherence to safety guidelines, proper alignment, and correct drilling techniques.
- Troubleshoot and perform basic maintenance on drilling equipment, ensuring their optimal performance and minimizing downtime.
- Coordinate with crew members to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of projects.
- Comply with all safety regulations and protocols, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and report any unsafe conditions or incidents to the supervisor.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other stakeholders to report progress, challenges, and suggestions for process improvements.
- 1-3 years of experience with directional drilling rigs
- Ability to lift 75 lbs
- Ability to work as a team with a positive attitude and good work ethic
- Valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle record
- A Class A CDL license is a plus
- Must be able to obtain a DOT medical card
- Must be able to travel in the North Dakota, South Dakota, and Western Minnesota areas with occasional overnight stay as necessary
