
Junior Acoustics Engineer

- Perform technical activities which impact the proposal, system and detail-level design of advanced acoustic systems.
- Support the development and prototyping of sonar transducer/array systems.
- Support all phases of transducer/array system proposals, research, development, test, and documentation.
- Research and Development: Conduct experiments to verify the performance of materials and sensors used in underwater acoustics.
- Proposals: Contribute to preparation of multidisciplinary proposals regarding development of sonar transducer/array systems.
- Manufacturing: Contribute to system and detail design of advanced acoustics systems.
- Testing and Analysis: Evaluate material properties and acoustic sensor performance through various tests and analyze the results.
- Data Interpretation: Interpret data from experiments and tests to draw conclusions and make recommendations.
- Problem Solving: Address issues related to materials and acoustic performance, and find solutions to improve them.
- Collaboration: Work with engineers and other scientists on the development of sensors for specific applications.
- The ideal candidate will have knowledge of acoustics and its applications, including:
- Ability to apply first principles of acoustics,
- Understanding of acoustic requirements for novel applications,
- Experience in formal acoustic testing and data analysis,
- Familiarity with finite element modeling of acoustic phenomena (COMSOL, MatLab, MathCAD, Maple),
- Experience conducting experiments in laboratory facilities, and
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Masters or PhD in Physics is preferred.
