
Pre/Post Operative RN

1. Receive patient (and parents if working with pediatric patients) in pre-operative area. *
2. Check the wristband of patient, confirm patient identity. *
3. Check the chart for completed procedural consent and verify with patient. *
4. Complete pre-op patient assessment and document in EMR as required by policy (Use pediatric aids where appropriate). *
5. Complete all practitioners’ orders and document in EMR. *
6. Remain available for questions throughout process. *
7. Complete short-term patient teaching, preparing patient for procedure and post-operative care. *
8. Be vigilant as to the change in condition, with immediate assessment, interpretation and documentation of signs and symptoms, notifying surgeon of any changes. *
9. Receive oral post-operative report from anesthesia personnel. This will include procedure, type of anesthesia, medications used, general condition of patient and any other pertinent O.R. information. *
10. Note level of consciousness, complete thorough assessment and document in EMR as required by policy. *
11. Discharge patients when they meet criteria per policy. *
12. Review discharge instructions and medications with the patient and the family. Provide all patients with copy of written discharge instructions. *
13. Attend staff meetings. *
14. Uses appropriate PPE for patient care and other settings where required. *
15. Be an active participant in committees (i.e. Safety Committee, Infection Control). *
16. Participate in orienting new staff. *
17. Understand hazard risk and demonstrate complete understating of established emergency procedures for the Surgery Center. *
18. Reports incidences or issues through chain of command and maintains confidentiality. Complete all employee/patient incident documentation in a thorough and timely manner. *
19. Assist/floats to other roles or departments as needed.
20. Follows rights of medication administration, appropriately signs out medications. *
21. Employees will not be discourteous or disrespectful to a customer or any member of the public while in the course and scope of company business. *
22. Work in a cooperative manner with management/supervision, coworkers, patients and vendors. *
23. Abide by company policies. *
24. Other duties as assigned.
25. Maintain regular, in person, work attendance and punctuality, as scheduled.*EDUCATION/LICENSES REQUIRED:
Graduate of a Professional School of Nursing
Valid Oregon Nursing license
Current CPR/BLS/ACLS certificationEXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS PREFERRED:
Previous surgical experience preferred
Basic understanding of infection control
Strong patient assessment ability
Organizational skills and ability to prioritize work flow
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations and to work under pressure
Proficiency and legalities of charting and telephone conversations
Compassionate, patient and tactful
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients and staff
Proactive, independent, and accountable
Proficient computer skills
