Job SummaryChloeta is seeking a highly knowledgeable and experienced Bison Management Project Manager Subject Matter Expert (SME) to oversee projects involving the conservation, management, and long-term sustainability of bison populations in the Midwest Region (MWR). This role combines technical expertise in bison ecology and herd management with project management skills to ensure successful planning, execution, and delivery of client objectives.Supervisory Responsibilities: NoJob Classification: Permanent; Part-TimeDuty Station: Remote/VirtualTravel: Up to 10%, Contingent upon business needsDuties/ResponsibilitiesWorked with a federal client to establish coordinated management efforts Articulates clear management principlesEngages with Tribal Nations in bison stewardshipImplements scientific findings and Indigenous knowledge to the extent practicableProvides expertise in bison ecology, population dynamics, genetics, and habitat requirementsReviews management plans for bison herds, including grazing rotations, carrying capacity, and habitat restorationProvides advice on herd health monitoring, veterinary needs, disease prevention, and nutritional managementCollaborates with tribal, federal, state, and local partners to align bison management strategies with cultural and conservation prioritiesConducts and oversees field assessments of bison herds, rangeland conditions, and ecological impactsPrepares reports, technical studies, and recommendations for bison management and conservation initiatives.Leads project planning, execution, monitoring, and close-out for bison management initiativesManages project budgets, schedules, and deliverables to meet client requirementsTracks project milestones and provide progress updates to leadership and clientsIdentifies and mitigates project risks to maintain quality and performance standardsThis job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee. Duties, responsibilities and activities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.Required Skills/AbilitiesStrong knowledge of bison herd ecology, genetics, health, and habitat requirementsFamiliarity with tribal, federal, and state wildlife management frameworksExcellent communication skills, including the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholdersStrong technical writing and reporting skillsKnowledge of wildlife handling, veterinary protocols, and herd health managementExperience developing and implementing long-term bison conservation and management strategiesDemonstrated project management experience, preferably in environmental, wildlife, or natural resource projectsProficiency in project management tools, budgeting, and schedulingExcellent organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skillsStrong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare technical reports and present to diverse audiencesAbility to build and maintain relationships with Tribal Nations, federal/state agencies, and other stakeholdersEducation and ExperienceRequired: Bachelor’s Degree in Wildlife Biology, Ecology, Animal Science, Rangeland Management, or related fieldRequired: At least Ten (10) years of experience in environmental planning (including at least 5 years of experience with NEPA planning), and experience with bison management planning (as evidenced by managing at least three projects that involve these topics as primary project issues)Physical RequirementsProlonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computerThis role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, etc.Ability to work in field environments and travel as neededPre-employment RequirementsDue to the nature of Chloeta’s services, this position is contingent upon completing with a satisfactory outcome some or all of the following pre-employment background screenings: government security clearance, federal and state criminal background checks, drug test (urinalysis), Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review, educational history, employment history, and/or credit check.
