As the Southwest's largest shelter-based trauma hospital, your work will give second chances to pets who are routinely euthanized at other shelters across the country.   • Assist in the admission of
  • Administer treatment to the injured animals currently in the
  • Collect, prepare and submit all lab samples to outgoing
  • Perform physical exam on all animals; verify adoptability determination or appropriate avenue for
  • Assist in training Clinic
  • Keep all clinic areas clean and orderly; restock supplies as
  • Digital whole body and dental radiographs adhering to all required radiation safety procedures.
  • Assist in all areas of surgery from routine spays and neuters to orthopedic
  • Perform Felv, Felv/Fiv and Heartworm tests, implant microchips and administer any necessary vaccines.
  • Complete and maintain all
  • Clean and prepare all instruments for packing and
  • Clean and disinfect kennels after patients are
  • Fill veterinarian prescriptions and provide clients with instructions for
  • Follow departmental procedures for euthanasia including administration of
  • Fear free animal handling while being able to provide animal
  • Other duties as

  • High school diploma OR
  • Preferably completion of a veterinary technician program OR experience at a veterinary hospital or clinic. CVT not required. Education may substitute for
  • Must know phlebotomy, immunology, parasitology, endocrinology, pharmacology and perform safe and humane animal
  • Safe and humane animal handling skills are
  • Work well both independently and cooperatively as part of

  • Must be proficient in
Experience:Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:Language - Able to speak, read and write English; Spanish language helpful. Mathematical - Ability to perform basic mathematical skills.Technical - Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Explorer; able to learn other software programs as necessary. Proficiency with or able to learn/use Chameleon software (for use with animals in a shelter.Other:Regular attendance, punctuality and access to reliable transportation required.Work Environment / Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
