Robotics Controls EngineerThis exciting role will be responsible for planning, designing, and implementing electrical controls solutions for robotic systems efficiently and safely. A solid understanding of electrical and controls engineering applications will be needed to be successful in this role. They are headquartered in the Nampa, ID area. The company is a leading designer of automated solutions in the building component industry.   • Design electrical controls for robotic systems using the best electrical engineering practices with minimal oversight.
  • Create controls architecture overviews that can be used in planning controls design and system programming.
  • Collaborate with the mechanical engineering team to ensure electrical and mechanical design function together.
  • Create complete electrical drawings, including panel layouts and schematics, using SolidWorks Electrical that satisfies UL508a listing requirements with minimal oversight.
  • Peer review designs as part of the design approval process.
  • Select and purchase appropriate hardware for robotic systems.
  • Collaborate with the assembly team during the assembly phase to ensure design intent is followed.
  • Verify that panel assemblies and wiring during system builds meet standards and match electrical drawings.
  • Develop initial configurations for robotic systems; especially ABB Robot Controllers using RobotStudio, B&R PLCs and other B&R equipment, Beckhoff PLCs and other Beckhoff equipment, VFDs, and cameras.
  • Set up, test, verify communication (Ethernet IP, Powerlink, EtherCAT, Socket Messaging, etc.), and troubleshoot devices, such as input and output modules, sensors, cameras, motors, PLCs, or other equipment.
  • Ensure each system is configured and prepared for handoff to the Robotic System Engineering team for programming.
  • Lead hazard risk analyses and ensure safe controls design per RIA and regional guidelines.
  • Develop, program, and commission Safety PLCs and all other safety equipment like area scanners, light curtains, etc.
  • Maintains the UL-certified documentation.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites up to 20% of the time.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or equivalent industry experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Proficient with electrical CAD software, preferably SolidWorks Electrical.
  • Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot industrial controls equipment.
  • Proficiency with ABB RobotStudio, B&R Automation Studio, and Beckhoff TwinCAT is preferred.
  • 2+ years of controls engineering design experience in an automation role, preferably for industrial robotic systems with electro-mechanical and pneumatic components.
  • Industrial hands-on experience and troubleshooting for electrical circuits from 24VDC to 3 Phase 480VAC.
  • Experience using industrial communication protocols, preferably Ethernet IP, Powerlink, EtherCAT, and OPC UA.
  • Experience with PDM and ERP systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of industrial controls and safety standards (ANSI, RIA, ISO).
Salary Range:
  • $85,000-115,000 depending on experience.
