The Program’s part-time lead instructors teach adults seeking a High School Equivalency diploma. MSU Denver is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented and historically minoritized groups.ResponsibilitiesProvide direct classroom instruction, including one-on-one tutoring, in math/science or language arts/social studies to adults using approved High School Equivalency curriculum, student-centered teaching methods and materialsDemonstrated knowledge of contentFoster encouraging and supportive learning environment for students by responding to instructional needs and by integrating pathways to career and higher education into instructional delivery and providing weekly feedback to studentsCollaborate with lead teaching staff regarding curriculum, materials, testing and evaluation and assist with lesson planning and class preparationCreate individualized educational plans with each student based on learning needs and identified student goalsFulfill all testing, record keeping, and reporting responsibilitiesUse industry standard software to track student progress, analyze student performance data, and adapt instruction accordinglyParticipate in and contribute to staff professional development and trainingOther duties as assignedAn affiliate faculty member’s duties include but are not limited to: teaching assigned classes in person or online by delivering course content to students, preparing course materials and lesson plans, grading student work, providing students with robust feedback in a timely manner, addressing student questions consistent with university, college/school, and department policies, and providing online or in person academic support to students as needed and appropriate for the teaching assignment; providing instruction in assigned classes consistent with the content and learning objectives of the regular course syllabus and, if required, with department course coordination policies; maintaining office hours; and complying with university-wide student evaluation of instruction policies and peer observation policies.Required QualificationsAbility to teach online, in-person at offsite locations, and during daytime or evening hoursExperience teaching adults in Spanish and knowledge of High School Equivalency/GED exams; including preparatory digital learning management platforms and corresponding assessment toolsProficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, or advanced digital skills to quickly learn new learning management systemsBroad knowledge and skill with instructional techniques and strategies to think critically and proactively adapt instruction to meet student needs and challengesB.A. in Education or related fieldsTwo years of formal instructional experience in adult educationABEA (Adult Basic Education Certification) or willingness to obtain it within two yearsKnowledge and practice of current adult education theoryExperience with standard educational assessment toolsAbility to pass a background checkAbility to lift/carry 20 lbsPreferred QualificationsMaster’s degree in adult education or related fieldUnderstanding of College and Career Readiness StandardsExperience developing and/or delivering contextualized/student-centered instructionFamiliarity with the state approved HSE exams (GED and HiSET) and their contentIntermediate conversational Spanish skillsAbility to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of immigrant, low income, and diverse urban populationsThe University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groupsTerms of EmploymentAffiliate faculty are part-time, at-will employees hired to teach on a per credit hour basis for specific classes, usually on a semester-by-semester basis. Affiliate faculty are not eligible for benefit coverage under the University’s benefit program.
