ANAEROBIC DIGESTION ASSISTANT PLANT MANAGERSpecialty in Waste ReceivingJessup, MDSalary: $100k range - DOE – with annual bonus plan and other incentivesROLE DESCRIPTIONThe Assistant Plant Manager is responsible for assisting the Plant Manager with full operational and administrative oversight at our facility. This includes a wastewater treatment plant and anaerobic digestion plant utilizing food waste to produce biomethane. This role assists the Plant Manager with overseeing all process performance and safety, operations personnel, permit compliance, P&L and facility budget. This position reports to the Plant Manager and reports on-site in Jessup, Maryland.RESPONSIBILITIESOPERATIONS
  • Assist Plant Manager with directing daily activities related to the safe and efficient operation of the facility. Ensure the plant is operating within its parameters as related to health, safety, and environmental regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the operation of the biological processes of the AD (and wastewater treatment once licensed) and make recommendation for operational process changes verifying permit compliance with air, waste and stormwater
  • Communicate with maintenance and biological support team to ensure efficient running of the plant.
  • Perform regular checks of plant equipment and determine the need to adjust, repair, and carry out basic service of equipment.
  • Ensure site tidiness and general good housekeeping throughout the plant.
  • Ensure adequate inventory of consumables such as fuel, and chemicals is maintained
  • Maintain constant communication with plant leadership for pertinent information and operational updates
  • Respond to 24/7 to alarm callouts as necessary
MANAGEMENT
  • Assist Plant Manager with directing all operational and maintenance staff
  • Monitor the efficient intake and record keeping of organic feedstock materials by staff
  • Collaborate with Human Resource department to complete any new hire, performance management, talent development, schedule, payroll, PTO or employee relation matters
  • Manage and support a team of Floor Attendants with technical input for all shifts.
  • Support supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, and problem resolution. Collaborate with Human Resource department to complete any new hire, performance management, talent development, schedule, payroll, PTO or employee relation matters.
  • Assure the means are in place to develop Floor & Operator team member’s knowledge, skills, progression, and productivity
  • Motivate employees to achieve peak productivity and performance
  • Promote a culture of collaboration and trust to maximize employee productivity, increase retention, and minimize turnover
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Maintenance team, collaborating on a variety of projects to achieve common goal
  • Carry our management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Ensure the ability to cross train operations staff on WWTP, Centrifuge and gas skid operations
ADMINISTRATION
  • Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to track and book work orders
  • Make routine purchases for operational and maintenance needs
  • Assist in the development of documentation such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs)
  • Monitor AD feeding records, gas production, digestate, wastewater and other reports / logs.
QUALIFICATIONS | EXPERIENCE
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in the operation of AD facilities essential to provide the oversight and training of others.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in the safe operation of rolling equipment such as forklifts, front end loaders, skid steers, cranes, and manlifts.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation and controls, and SCADA systems
  • Knowledge of CHP, biomethane upgrading technology, flares, and gas blowers.
  • Familiarity with pumps, compressors, agitators, de-packagers, conveyors, separators, etc.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations such as Confined Space, Hot Work Permits, Working at Height, First Aid, etc. is required. Successful completion of this occupational training shall be required.
  • Must facilitate good working relationships with superiors, peers, and direct reports.
  • Maintain a residence within a commutable distance of the facility to respond to emergencies within 1 hour.
  • Possess a Maryland Level I-5A Wastewater Certificate or be willing to obtain within
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely both orally and in writing
  • Competent with technology and the Microsoft Office Suite of programs
  • Must facilitate good working relationships with superiors, peers, and direct reports.
  • Experience with direct reports preferrable
