  • Support safety action plans and processes to meet company safety objectives
  • Oversee adherence to permitting conditions and provide assistance to mine operations to insure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Acquire and develop necessary background and environmental monitoring data
  • Modification and development of appropriate mining and reclamation plans
  • Monitoring of environmental controls for mine operations
  • Coordinate with State and Federal agencies on mining operations and permitting
  • Provide oversight of engineering consultants in preparation of permits and amendments, directing daily work toward project completion
  • Assist in coordination of environmental audits, leading audit teams
  • Escort State and Federal Environmental Inspectors during site inspections
  • Prepare and track environmental reporting requirements
  • Play an active role in philanthropic environmental programs in nearby communities
  • Manage special engineering projects as needed
  • All other duties as reasonably required
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in engineering, geology, biology, environmental science, or equivalent field
  • Master's degree desirable but not required - equivalent experience may be substituted for educational background
  • 5 years minimum experience in relevant field
  • Working knowledge of environmental regulations and current environmental issues
  • Experience in mine permitting in United States
  • Proficiency in MS Office - AutoCAD a plus
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision
  • Working knowledge of EPA and Mining rules pertaining to surface and underground mining
  • Excellent safety and attendance record

Physical Requirements: * While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear and see.
  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 25 pounds) during the course of the workday.
  • Work is in a surface mine plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity.
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
