Description of WorkSALARY GRADE: Grade 12Superior Court 17, serving Alamance County, seeks a qualified candidate to perform a variety of secretarial and administrative tasks for the Senior Resident Superior Court Judge.Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Screen callers and visitors, answer inquiries, secure and give information.
  • Screen and route mail according to contents of communication including email.
  • Schedule appointments and meetings, make travel arrangements, and maintain administrative records for the office.
  • Order and distribute office supplies.
  • Copy, file, and retrieve materials and perform periodic follow-up activities.
  • Compose and prepare materials including correspondence, reports, and legal documents.
  • May prepare and distribute calendars and answer questions regarding status of cases.
  • May provide support services to other programs in the district such as arbitration, mediation, or jury management.
  • May assist with jury management operations.
  • May coordinate court reporting services.
This position reports to the Senior Resident Superior Court Judge. Work hours are 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / CompetenciesKnowledge of: court rules and procedures; general office procedures; grammar and punctuation; word processing; commonly used rules, procedures, or methods, to perform assignments.Skills in: Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; and strong oral and written communication skills.Ability to: screen communications and based on content, handle independently or route to proper destination; apply grammar and punctuation rules; type with accuracy and speed; spell accurately; use judgment in organizing and establishing document format; give basic information and instructions regarding programs or office based on inquires; operate office equipment such as copier, calculator, fax machine, computer, and telephones.Minimum Education and Experience RequirementsGraduation from high school and two (2) years of experience as a legal secretary or paralegal; or an Associate Degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Attach cover letter and résumé.Supplemental and Contact InformationINSTRUCTIONS:Applicants must complete an on-line application by clicking the above APPLY link.
