Job Summary/Basic FunctionThe Exploratory Advisor position is integral to serving the needs of constituents requesting assistance from the Office of General Studies & Exploratory Advising. The primary function of this position is to provide academic advisement to students exploring majors at Weber State University. The advisor will provide academic advisement to students focusing on major and career exploration. Duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Assist students with academic career planning, including developmental and informational advisement
- Help students understand academic areas of interest, program requirements, and pathway options leading to the university's seven colleges
- Utilize grad maps to assist in degree planning
- Help students understand policies and procedures
- Refer students to other WSU support services that can also help them achieve their academic goals
- Help students resolve challenges regarding enrollment, retention, and persistence to graduation
- Present advising information to groups of students on and off campus
- Bachelor's degree.
- One year of full-time college employment experience in academic advisement, registration, admissions, financial aid, student services, enrollment services, or equivalent in higher education and/or the K-12 system.
- Strong verbal communication, written communication, listening, record keeping, and information management skills.
- Ability to become a skilled user of Banner and other technological tools.
- Strong customer-service skills.
