Under the general supervision of the HVAC Shop Leader, repairs, installs, modifies and maintains air conditioning, refrigeration equipment, control mechanisms and associated components on campus and heat distribution. May supervise or train one or more subordinates. Responsible for the performance of preventative maintenance.The following are the functions essential to performing this job.Reads blueprints, schematics and drawings related to work performed.Makes preventative maintenance inspections and repairs on scheduled basis.Tests systems and/or components for vacuum and refrigerant leaks.Checks operating efficiency of control units such as solenoids, thermostatic and pressure valves.Works on centrifugal and propeller type fans and water pumps, motor capacitors and switches.Diagnoses cause of malfunction and extent of repair.Checks duct work as necessary.Removes, cleans and replaces filters.Repairs and installs all types of boilers and furnaces.Individuals in this job may be assigned one or more of the following tasks on a rotating or as-needed basis.Performs other associated duties as required.Employees in this class may lead laborers and other assistants.The individual in this job must possess these skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.Demonstrate ability to read and interpret blueprints or other written instruction.Oral and written instructions are received from supervisor who is responsible for the coordination of necessary work.Demonstrate ability to properly maintain and care for tools and equipment used on job assignments.Demonstrate the ability to handle routine job assignments independently.Formalized training in heating and air conditioning systems.A mechanical aptitudeKnowledge of basic electricitySkill and knowledge of varied type tools used in general maintenance, heating and air conditioning system.1. Education: High School Graduate2. Successful experience: A minimum of five years of successful experience.Other preferences:1. Formalized training in heating and air conditioning systems.2.
