Primary Purpose of DepartmentThe mission of the Veteran Services Office is to continue the institution's founding purpose of serving North Carolina's military affiliated students. We accomplish this by facilitating educational opportunities while consistently providing outstanding customer service. By continually striving for the success of our students, we help enrich their lives while building a strong sense of community among Charlotte students.
Primary Purpose of PositionThe Program Director for Outreach and Engagement is the first point of contact for military-affiliated students seeking enrollment at UNC Charlotte. Responsible for assisting in the recruitment of prospective military affiliated students, the Program Director helps prospective students navigate the complex Veteran Affairs education benefits and the UNC Charlotte administrative and admissions process. The Program Director will plan, implement and administer programs and initiatives designed to target, recruit and enroll new students.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
  • Participates in selected on-campus and off-campus recruitment and enrollment activities including, but not limited to: information sessions; education fairs; one on one meetings; university Admissions recruiting efforts; and various academic departments.
  • Manages inquiries to achieve prompt contact and meet established performance goals.
  • Utilizes university and Veteran Affairs approved recruitment policies and formats, and becomes knowledgeable about Veteran Services Office programs and processes.
  • Demonstrates functional knowledge of admissions guidelines, military and veteran benefits requirements, and university tracking and management programs.
  • Participates in educational fairs, career development fairs, information sessions, and other selected events at military installations, community colleges, and Veteran Service Organizations, etc..
  • Achieves delineated recruitment goals.
  • Provides exceptional customer service and create an inclusive and positive experience for all prospective students
  • Assists VSO staff as needed for benefits administration, special projects, student centered events, and community focused events.
Minimum Education/Experience
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two years experience working directly with military affiliated students in higher education or comparable non-profit organization.
  • Demonstrated experience creating, advancing, or enhancing programs, services, and organization climate for military affiliated students.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Willingness to travel domestically and work non-traditional hours as needed, a valid driver's license is required.

  • Recruitment experience, higher education recruiting preferred
  • Military experience
  • Sales experience
  • High level listening aptitude and ability to articulate ideas and achieve common ground
  • Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite experience
  • Detail oriented

  • A valid driver's license is required
