Our mission is to share our passion for The Paper Store with each customer, during each visit, by going above and beyond their expectations for both selection and service.The Manager of Transportation Services is responsible for managing many modes of transport, such as parcel, LTL, TL, and final mile for store to store, dc to store, dc to customer and more. This position is responsible for improving the overall operating efficiencies in transportation and will work to coordinate, manage, and optimize the flow of products, fixtures, and supplies. Building strong relationships with our service providers and internal team members will be a key to success in this job. The Manager of Transportation Services will collaborate with the Merchandise Teams, Distribution, Finance, Technology, and Store Operations frequently.The Manager of Transportation Services reports directly to the Director of Supply Chain & Logistics.COMPETENCIES:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Be a TPS brand ambassador
  • Manage many modes of transportation with a focus in parcel, LTL, TL, and Final Mile
  • Optimize movement of goods and services including from DC to store, DC to customer, vendor to DC, vendor to store, Store to Store, etc.
  • Final Mile route optimization & delivery by partnering with 3PL on store delivery, distribution on preparation, and stores on receiving
  • Identify carriers, brokers, mode types, and other options to assist the business in growing and refining Supply Chain services as the needs develop
  • Support outgoing and future RFP’s and execute carrier bids, looking at optimum cost, offset with efficient and reliable transportation service providers
  • This position will work with carriers on tactical level issues that come up daily and will help to define strategic solutions to improve service and operating efficiency
  • Utilize current Transportation Management System (TMS) to execute carrier management activities and be an administrator to application
  • Maintain rates and route guides for negotiated lanes
  • Drive supply chain savings through network optimization
  • Develop & maintain carrier scorecards which include agreed to performance measures, review lanes on a regular basis, and resolve on-going challenges
  • Help in the development and execution of a Vendor freight Conversion to move goods from prepaid to collect by working closely with merchandise planning and allocation group to determine mode/carrier assignments to ensure lowest landed cost
  • Audit, review, approve, and dispute on transportation invoices and ancillary charges from freight activity
  • File and resolve claims, as necessary
  • Be involved with setting and tracking budgets. Provide options and trade-offs of budget decisions
  • Coordinate and align with Corporate and Distribution to ensure capacities are being met, that route guides and commitments are being followed, exceptions are being discussed, evaluated, and resolved
  • Prepare presentations and quarterly carrier management reviews
  • Mentor future Transportation team members; teach about TPS transportation and supply chain operations to help them succeed in their roles; develop both yourself and peers for future development opportunities.
  • Complete all other tasks assigned by management within the allotted timeframe
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Current or most recent role must be in a Transportation or Logistics role for a Retail Company
  • Must understand end-to-end Supply Chain, including product knowledge, freight management, and vendor management
  • Bachelor’s degree with concentrations in Business, Transportation, Logistics or Supply Chain preferred but not required
  • 3+ years of professional experience in the areas of Transportation, Logistics, or Supply Chain
  • 3+ years of direct or indirect Retail experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including an advanced understanding of Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience in systems such as a TMS, WMS, Analytics (PowerBi, Tableau), Forecasting, Allocation and Replenishment, and Order Management tools
  • Self-starter who takes ownership of their work and has strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated analytical and quantitative abilities
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to problem-solve quickly and efficiently
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong business acumen
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to simplify complex projects and present summary details and conclusions
  • Experience in project management and/or prioritization is a plus

  • Ability to work 3+ days/week at the Corporate Office in Acton, MA, as well as the Distribution Center in Leominster, MA as needed.
